Barry J. Shea, Jr.

ELDRED- Barry James Shea Jr, 55, of Eldred, passed away Saturday (September 3, 2022) at Buffalo General Medical Center, with his loving husband and friend by his side.

He was born on October 28, 1966, in Vineland, NJ, a son of Barry J. and Christina G. Bump Shea.  On May 15, 2020, in Smethport, he married Adam L. Palmer, who survives.

Barry had a strong passion for languages and for teaching.  He graduated from Mansfield University and Penn State University with a degree in Education and German respectively. Barry spent his 20s traveling to various regions of the world.  He lived abroad in Germany, Chile, and South Korea teaching English as a second language.  He also spent summers teaching ESL at Cushing academy in Massachusetts.

Barry was currently employed at Smethport Area High School where he was a beloved teacher for more than 20 years.

Surviving in addition to his husband Adam L. Shea, are his father, Barry J. Shea, Sr.,  sister, Susan A. Shea (Soxy, beloved dog) both of Vernon, CT, a brother, Edward T. Shea of Tampa, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Christina G. Shea.

A memorial service for Barry will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, (September 15, 2022), in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, with the Rev. Max Simms officiating.

Memorials can be made in honor of Barry to the Barry Shea Scholarship at the Smethport Area Jr.-Sr. High School or to the Buffalo Area County Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave., Buffalo NY, 14218, Attn: Ashley Carney.
