Claude O. SEELY, 83, Ulysses, PA, formerly of Coudersport, died Thursday, July 24, 2025 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
Born June 30, 1942, in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of Orlo F. and Marion Carter Seely. On June 19, 1965, in the Ulysses United Methodist Church, he married Nancy Jane Bachman, who survives. A 1960 graduate of Montrose High School, he earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Mansfield State College and a master’s degree in special education and supervisor certificate in special education. He was employed by the Austin Area School District and Seneca Highlands IU9 as a supervisor of special education programs, retiring twice in the early 2000’s. Claude was a member of the Ulysses Methodist Church, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, and Lewisville Lodge #556, F&AM. He served as a Ulysses Township Supervisor and was a member of the Ulysses Township planning commission. An avid sportsman and outdoorsman all his life, Claude was an advocate for conservation in Potter County and beyond. He was a successful inner city baseball coach in Coudersport, and a mentor in the Northern Potter school. He was a friend and mentor to many young people throughout his life.
Surviving besides his wife, Nancy, are: a son, Shane R. (Sonia Moreno) Seely of St. Louis, MO; a granddaughter, Maria Seely; a daughter of the heart, Susan (Ken) Klesa of Ulysses, and her daughters, Lilly and Victoria; a son of the heart, Timothy Carpenter, and his sons, Sheldon and Robert; a sister-in-law, Mary Janet Seely of Tucson, AZ; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Lorraine Stilwell; and a brother, Giles C. Seely.
Friends may call at the Ulysses Methodist Church on Saturday, August 2, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, with a Memorial Service following at 11:00 AM. Rev. Todd Lamer will officiate.
