PORT ALLEGANY- Donald G. Schweikart, 81, of Route 155 S, passed away Sunday (Oct. 14, 2018) in his home.
Born May 26, 1937, in Port Allegany, he was a son of George W. and Anna L. Klesa Schweikart.
Donald was a longtime resident of the area and a graduate of Port Allegany High School, class of 1956.
Upon graduation, he joined the US Air Force, where he remained for 12 years. He was a veteran of the Viet Nam War, and reached the rank of sergeant, before leaving the Air Force in 1969.
He was employed with Sylvania Co. (now GTE) formerly of Emporium, National Powder Works of Eldred, and most recently drove truck for: Mallery Lumber Co. of Emporium, Randall Green Lumber Co. of Crosby, and Herzog Brothers of Smethport, before retiring. He also worked for Lee’s Electronics of Port Allegany.
Donald enjoyed working on heavy equipment & electronics. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, but most of all, he loved to fly.  He built and flew his own ultra-light aircraft from his neighbor’s local air strip. Many stories were shared about aviation with his friends.
Surviving are a sister, Helen M. Main of Port Allegany and a stepsister, Betty Evens of Smethport; five nephews: K. Michael (Tina) Main of Port Allegany, Russell Main of Shinglehouse, Brent (Susan) Schweikart of Chesapeake, VA, Branden Schweikart of Zuni, VA,  Adam (Melissa) Hamilton of Port Allegany; step-nephew, Glenn (Nancy) Evens of Port Allegany; two nieces, Amanda (Dan) Elder of Lewisville, NC, Natalie Hamilton of Goldsboro, NC, and an aunt, Lorraine Johnson of Bradenton, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold W. Schweikart; four sisters, Marcia J. Reinard, Sharon C. Hamilton, and infant sisters, Marjorie and Janice Schweikart.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 17, 2018) in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. Michael Culver, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Port Allegany, officiating.
A military service will be conducted immediately following the funeral by the Port Allegany Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Port Allegany.
Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
