Donna Rae MESSINO

d. October 2, 2022

Galeton, PA

Donna Rae MESSINO, nee Platt, of Galeton, PA, died Sunday, October 2, 2022 in UPMC Wellsboro, Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital.

Born August 2, 1935, in Galeton, she was the youngest daughter of Clyde and Mary Losey Platt. She was married to the love of her life, Michael J. Messino, who survives. A graduate of Galeton Area High School, Donna was employed by Galeton Production, Clean and Green Initiative in Coudersport, and most notably by Northwest Saving Bank, where she retired as a loan officer. She was a communicant of St. Bibiana Roman Catholic Church in Galeton. Donna was a wonderful and avid cook/baker. She never met a recipe she couldn’t conquer and make her own. Family and friends never left her home without a full stomach and a goody bag to take with them. Having had quite a green thumb, Donna could name and nurture any flower or plant with which she came in contact. Donna’s love of cooking and nature was surpassed only by her kindness, generosity of spirit, and love for her adoring family.

Surviving are: her husband, Mike; daughter Cathy “Cate” Foley, son-in-law James Foley; grandson Christian; granddaughters Siobhan and Joy; great-grandchildren, Page and Jerome; four sisters-in-law, Angela Douglas, Mary Messino, Gloria Arnone, and Carmellita Cochran; along with many nieces and nephews; and countless friends. In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by six sisters, Ruth Wolcott, Charlotte Romaneo, Mary Patkos, Marjorie Haner, Helen Lettau, and Joyce Clark; and two brothers, Robert Platt and James Platt.

Family and friends may call at St. Bibiana Church, 111 Germania St., Galeton on Saturday, October 8, 2022 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Fr. Brian Vossler will celebrate. Private interment will be in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton, PA on a later date.

Donna’s family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the doctors, ICU and 2nd floor nurses, and support staff at UPMC Soldiers & Sailors Hospital for providing exquisite care, comfort, and compassion during her final days.
