June 4, 1951 — November 11, 2023

Port Allegany, PA

 

Edwin A. ARCHER, Jr., 72, of Port Allegany, PA, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was surrounded by family at UPMC Cole, where he received end of life care by a compassionate staff.  

 

Born June 4, 1951, in Port Allegany, he was the son of Edwin A. and Genevieve Lewis Archer.  He grew up in Keating Summit as the oldest of five children. He attended Austin and Port Allegany Schools and achieved a GED. His biggest achievement was becoming a Certified Addiction Counselor for Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services. He married Linda Nace on July 30, 1988 and they were married for 35 years at the time of his death.  

 

He is survived by his dedicated wife, Linda; two sons, Douglas (Valerie) of Port Allegany and Brian (Tabitha) of Camden, SC; eight grandchildren, Sierra, Gracie, Noah, Jadon, Avery, Eve, Elise, and Ransom; two sisters, Deb DuBois (Gary) of Iowa and Linda Ayers (Pete) of Port Allegany; one brother, Rick Archer (Deb) of Roulette; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.  Ed was preceded in death by his parents, and youngest brother, James "Diamond Jim" Archer.  

 

Besides spending time with his family, Ed liked to fish and camp. He was a long-time enthusiast of Hills Creek Lake in Wellsboro and for more than twenty years enjoyed the campground with his family. He also loved the beach and took several trips to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina. He loved Friday night card games, beating his grandkids at Pegs, and his large collection of movies. He also joins his beloved dog Tyson and had a deep love for their current dog, Cookie. He had an infectious sense of humor in any situation and until the end. Ed was also a father by choice, with an unmatched sense of patience and wisdom that will guide his sons and grandchildren for the rest of their lives.  

 

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, November 15th at 5:00 PM in the First Church of God, Eldred, PA.
