With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the family of Frances M. Ball announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt and friend, on May 25, 2026, at age 100!
Fran was born in Honeoye, NY, to her parents Raymond and Myrtle Galloway Washburn. She graduated in a class of seven students at age 16. A few months later, she married her husband, Leslie Peck. Fran and Les went on to have a bushel of daughters; 4 PECKS make a bushel. (One of her favorite jokes)
The Pecks moved around a lot, introducing them to so many treasured friends. Leslie tragically died in a car accident in 1970. It was 1973 when Fran married her other childhood sweetheart, Edward Ball, and they moved to Scio, NY. They enjoyed each other's company for many years, spoiling those grandkids and attending all their events till Ed's passing in 1999.
Fran eventually moved to Whitesville, NY to be closer to family. It was there that she found herself immersed in community projects. She served with her C&MA church family at the weekly Release Time for children and held the position of church secretary for a few years. Fran participated in Friends of the Library and enjoyed the Senior Lunch Center. For the last six years, you would find her picking on the staff at Manor Hills in Wellsville, NY. More recently, she resided at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. We are forever grateful for the attentive services provided by both facilities.
Fran was strong-willed and even stubborn at times, but she also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. She was generous, loyal, kind and brave. Quick-witted, clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all her life experiences. Even with hardship and loss, Fran always carried a song in her heart, a touch of sarcasm and mischief at every turn. She loved music, dancing, games, card parties and laughing till she cried!
Fran will be remembered for all the love she shared with her friends, family, and especially young children. She truly loved each of them and if you knew Fran, you knew she loved you! When her time was waning, she carried herself with dignity, strength and compassion, not afraid to join her Lord and those who had gone before. Fran made her mark on this world, will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Jackie Peck of Whitesville, Susan West of Wilson, NC and Cindy Prunier (Joe) of Bath; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four, with one on the way, great-great grandchildren; several very special nieces and nephews; and friends that have always felt like family!
She was predeceased by her parents; three siblings; two husbands; a daughter, Bonnie Peck; a son-in-love, Mike West; and grandson, Todd West.
Friends may call at Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, 34 West State Street, Wellsville, NY, on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 3:00 PM. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery of South Livonia, NY.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Whitesville Fire Department, PO Box 256, Whitesville, NY 14897.
