Hugh S. WELFLING

Hugh S. WELFLING, 73, of Galeton, PA, died Saturday, May 25, 2013 in his home. Born December 10, 1939, in Coudersport, PA, he was a son of Stanley C. and Beatrice Straley Welfling. A 1957 graduate of Galeton High School, he served honorably with the US Army from 1959 - 1961. On September 24, 1962, in Elkton, MD, he married the former Barbara L. Hayes, who survives. He earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Mansfield University in 1967 and taught in Bath, NY for one year and in Galeton from 1969 - 1996. Hugh was a member of St. Matthaeus Lutheran Church in Germania and St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Galeton, Galeton Masonic Lodge, Kettle Creek Sportmens Club, and the Galeton Moose. Surviving besides his wife, Barbara, are: a son, Hugh Frederick Welfling of Syracuse, NY; two daughters, Theresa Marie Welfling of Painted Post, NY and Alison Marie Welfling of Galeton; a sister-in-law, Ruby Welfling of Germania; nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, William Daniel "Dan" Welfling; a brother, Stanley E. Welfling; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Eleanor (Wilbur) Taxis, June (Harold) Traub, Beverly Emily Welfling, and infant Betty Frances Welfling. Friends may call Friday, May 31, 2013 from 7:00 - 9:00 PM at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Galeton, PA, where Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Rev. M. Thomas Shatto will officiate. Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Galeton Public Library, 5 Park Lane, Galeton, PA 16922, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Galeton, PA 16922, or Susquehanna Hospice, 24 Walnut Street, Wellsboro, PA 16901.
