IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James C.
ARKERSON
November 10, 1940 – December 30, 2025
James C. “Jim” ARKERSON, 85, of North Syracuse, NY, passed away Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in Upstate University Hospital, Syracuse.
Born November 10, 1940, in Syracuse, James was the son of John A. and Louise M. Snover Arkerson; and the brother of the late John Arkerson and the late William Arkerson. On August 27, 1989, in Syracuse, he married Dawn V. Mann, who survives. In addition to his loving wife, Dawn, James is survived by his children: James N. Arkerson (Sherri), Danielle Rausa (Andrew Frazo), and Alicia Rausa (Daniel Melvin). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Brittany Arkerson; Seaver, Brayden, and Kasten Schultz; Liam and Ashleigh Rausa; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Jim was a graduate of East Syracuse High School and worked as an engineer for Niagara Mohawk for 30 years. He also owned a successful business selling air and water purification systems and loved working at the New York State Fair, where he enjoyed meeting new people. He was a proud member of North Syracuse Christian Church, where his favorite pastor, Monte (Thea), always brought him joy. James had a beautiful voice and was a member of a barbershop quartet for more than 40 years. In addition to his love of God and music, he shared his passion for dancing with his wife, with whom he taught country western dancing for several years.
He also enjoyed camping and spending time around campfires with friends from his extensive travels. Jim loved traveling with the apple of his eye, Dawn. Together they vacationed in many states, including Alaska and Hawaii, with Branson, Missouri being one of his favorite destinations. He, his wife, and his mother-in-law, the late Margery Mann, generously volunteered their time cooking and serving food at veterans’ events. A true connoisseur of food, Jim loved dining out anywhere, was willing to try anything, and always cleaned his plate—saving room for pie.
His greatest joy, however, was his grandchildren. Jim loved attending their concerts, sporting events, and DCI shows, always cheering them on with pride. He took every opportunity to help them and proudly bragged about them to others. They were his greatest pride, and he was a very proud PaPa.
