Obituary

Janet Lee Douglas BROWN, 86, of Belmont, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, in her home.

Born August 4, 1939, in Franklin, PA, she was the daughter of Thelma Wyher Douglas and Samuel Smith Douglas. A graduate of Oil City High School, she earned her teaching degree and master’s degree from Clarion University. She was a devoted teacher, teaching first grade and special education in Pennsylvania and later in New York.

After leaving teaching, Janet followed her lifelong dream and opened Dreams Daycare in East Aurora for many years. In her later life, she was passionate about caring for her developmentally disabled clients through People Inc and SASI. Her passion to help people and children was rivaled only in her love of animals. She enjoyed the companionship of many creatures during her life including animals she cared for at the bequest of her grandchildren. Her life was filled with horses, dogs, cats, fish, and one very naughty goat.

Surviving are: two sons, Heath (Suzanne) Brown of Belmont and Dana (Elizabeth) Brown of Alabama; 12 grandchildren, James, Jesse, Tyler, Rae, Alexus, Ridge, Jordan, Kaylee, Ryder, Adeline, Alyssa, and Logan; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Mona Mae; a nephew who was raised as her brother, Samuel Douglas; and a son, Shane D. Brown.

There will be no services. Burial will be in Sardinia Rural Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to SPCA serving Allegany County or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Arrangements are under the direction of Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, Belmont, NY. Online condolences may be expressed at www.olneyfoustembser.com.
