Obituary

Jean Marie DAVIS, of Rochester, NY, formerly of Andover, NY, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026, in ECMC, Buffalo.

Born July 19, 1939, in Andover, she was the daughter of Leeman C. and Beatrice E. Carson Davis. Jean was predeceased by her siblings Clarence L. (Eileen Kresch) Davis and Everett “Abe” (Mary Anne Joyce) Davis. She was affectionately known as Aunt Jean. Survived by her loving family members: Karen (Jim) Allen, Dan (Beth) Davis, John (Kim) Davis, Robert (Seana) Davis, Michele (Maurice) Collins, Allison Raykovitz, Marcella Heckman, Cindy (Dan) Flurschutz, L. Thomas Davis (Don Bowie), and Mary (Jay) Straight; 17 grandnieces and grandnephews; 14 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and extended family members and dear friends.

A 1958 graduate of Andover Central School, she proudly served her country in the United States Air Force from 1962 1967 (Woman's Auxiliary Air Force) as a telephone operator for the Royal Air Force (RAF) and then spent many years in the Army Reserves. Following her military service, she was employed by Xerox working in their computing centers. Jean was a night Owl and loved her Owls. She was an avid athletic supporter and a hot air balloon enthusiast. Next to her senior class picture it said, “Don’t miss that cue.” Jean was always prepared with a comeback. Once at midnight Mass the choir had just finished and there was a long period of silence, so I rolled my eyes at her. She leaned over and whispered “silent night” enough said. Jean lived in Webster, New York, and most recently resided at The Villages at Unity where she was affectionately known as Sarge. The family would like to thank the many friends who shared Jean's life. Special remembrance is given to her lifelong Air Force friend, Scarlett Dean, who faithfully called Jean every day like clockwork until Scarlett’s passing. And to Jackie, who was described in her yearbook as having “a disposition that is always refreshingly cheerful”—and that she was. Her pep, enthusiasm, and unwavering spirit forever changed the trajectory of Jean’s life. Jean will be remembered for her dedication to family, loyal friendships, service to her country, the many lives she touched, and her wonderful sense of humor.

Donations may be made in Jean's memory to the Andover Volunteer Fire Department, Andover Volunteer Ambulance Corps, or Andover Free Library.

Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Andover, NY. Local arrangements are under the direction of Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, 34 West State St., Wellsville, NY. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wellsvillefuneralhome.com.
