Joan C. COWLES

Joan C. COWLES, 95, formerly of Ulysses, PA, Olean, NY, and Hinsdale, NY, died Wednesday, October 6, 2021 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.

Born June 16, 1926, in Franklinville, NY, she was the daughter of Floyd and Dorothea Bancroft Whittaker.  She was employed as a caregiver and attended the Ulysses Free Methodist Church.

Surviving are:  six children, Donald Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Judy (Craig) Watson of West Bingham, Candace Gebauer of Great Valley, NY;  Dorothea Tompkins of Big Flats, NY, Richard (Sandra) Smith of Shinglehouse, PA, and Warren (Pia) Smith of Casa Grande, AZ;  many grandchildren and great-grandchildren;  a brother, Joel Whittaker of Tuscon, AZ;  a sister-in-law, Audrey Whittaker of Olean;  nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her first husband, Walter S. Smith;  her second husband, Carl Cowles;  an infant daughter, Carol Ann Smith;  a daughter-in-law, Eva Judy Smith;  a sister, Alta McCoy;  four brothers, Eugene Whittaker, Vincent Whittaker, Dana Whittaker, and Alvin Whittaker;  a grandson, Donnie Smith;  and a great-grandson, Tucker Watson.

A private funeral service will be held at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Crematory, Ulysses, PA.  Rev. Marty Zdrojewski will officiate.  Burial will be in Lamphier Cemetery, Eldred.
