John Edward THIBDEAU

John Edward Thibdeau, 67, formerly of Wellsville, died on October 15, 2012, in Sandy Hook, CT, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born January 14, 1945, in Stamford, CT the son of the late Leon E. and Anne M. (Moore) Thibdeau. On February 27, 1965, he married Mary Margaret “Peggy” Kreydt.

John attended John Jay High School, graduating in 1962. He immediately found his first career, playing professional baseball from 1963 – 1970; he first signed with the Boston Red Sox, and later played for both the Louisville Colonels and the Toronto Blue Jays. He began his second career, first as a school bus driver, for Katonah Lewisboro School district, where he eventually followed in his father’s footsteps, and worked his way up to Superintendent, retiring in December 2004. After his retirement, he continued working – dabbling in Real Estate and online business.

At the time of his passing, John was survived by: his wife of 47 years, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Thibdeau; a son, Christopher of Smyrna, GA; two daughters, Suzanne (Leda Robinson) Thibdeau of Wethersfield, CT and Lauren (Michael Boyce) Thibdeau of Milton, VT; granddaughters, Ivy, Ziah, and Taryn; a brother, Michael (Lynne) of Altamont, NY; brothers-in-law, James Kreydt of Sun City, FL, and Donald Wakeman of South Salem, NY; special friend, Joanne Miville; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Carol Ann Wakeman.

Friends are invited to a Graveside Service for John & Peggy, and their daughter Suzanne, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 11 am in Sacred Heart Cemetery of Wellsville, 276 South Main Street.
