Joseph C. Decker Jr., 80, of Hornell, died on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Houghton Rehabilitation and Nursing Center with his family by his side. He was born May 12, 1945, in Wellsville, the son of Joseph C. Sr. and Carrie H. (Stiles) Decker. On June 26, 1965, in Alfred, he married Patricia A. Richmond, who survives.

Joe grew up in Phillips Creek and lived on Irish Settlement Road of Belmont, for 52 years. He attended Alfred-Almond Central School and was active in band, choir, was student council president, boys state, All State and county champion wrestler. He continued his education at Alfred State College, earning his associates degree. He first entered the workforce while still in school and was employed by Sears in Hornell. He found his career as a dairy farmer, owing and operating his own farm with his wife Pat from 1970 – 1986. Additionally, he was employed by Hansen’s in Hornell.

Joe found his true passion, after the birth of his daughter, in making wooden toys for children. He was known for his toys that consisted of children’s furniture, barn sets, soldiers, forts, swords and shields, and much more. For over 30 years Joe and Pat travelled all over selling their toys at craft shows. They enjoyed meeting people and the joy his creations brought to children. At Christmas, Joe was known to donate his creations to children in need. Joe was known for his kindness. He was always willing to help those in need and often made a huge difference in people’s lives. His love for his family, wife, children, and grandchildren was unconditional. Family was everything to him. Joe and Pat were married for 60 years and filled all those years with love.

In addition to his wife, Pat, Joe is survived by: three sons, Joseph A. (Jen) Decker, Daniel C. (Laura) Decker, and Thomas J. (Beth) Decker; daughter, Jennifer A. (Derek) Foreman; grandchildren, Curtis, Jack, Clara, Jocelyn, Jesse, Bennett, Macie, Ella, and Norah; childhood ‘brothers’, David Decker and Ron Decker; as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by: his parents; a brother, Dave Decker; and two sisters, Beverly Saxton and Audrey Freeland.

Following Joe’s wishes, a celebration of life is being planned for a later date. A private graveside service will be held in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
