Obituary

Kathryn Louise “Kathy” MACENSKY, 80, of Galeton, PA, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

Born December 30, 1945, in Wellsboro, she was the daughter of Joseph A. and Virginia M. Colosimo Close, the youngest of five children. A 1965 graduate of Galeton Area High School, she attended beauty school in Rochester, NY. On June 10, 1967, in St. Bibiana Catholic Church, Galeton, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life for over 58 years, Steve Macensky, who survives. Together, they built a life centered around friends, family, and faith. Kathy devoted her life to her family, never missing a game or event in which either of her two sons were involved. This continued after she became a grandmother of three, all of whom she truly adored and loved deeply. She even retired from her job at the Tackle Shop to become a full-time Grammie. Whether it was volleyball or basketball games, concerts, tennis matches, graduations, or ceremonies, she was always there showing her support with a smile on her face and love in her heart.

She loved the beach, having enjoyed lots of trips with her husband and best friends. Together, they visited many places, though Kathy was just happy to be in the sand with her toes in the water. Once traveling became too difficult, her love of the beach lived on through seashells collected by her granddaughter and video chats with her grandson in Florida. Kathy was one of the best cooks one could ever meet, hosting almost every holiday gathering for her family and friends. She was also one of the strongest people one could know, having survived breast cancer and multiple brain surgeries. Kathy will be remembered by her family and friends for being a caring, strong, loving person, and for having a life well-lived. Her kindness, love, and smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory, in addition to her husband, Steve, are: her two sons, Andy (Kelly) Macensky of Galeton and Steve (Linn) Macensky of Wellsboro; her three grandchildren, Drew Macensky of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Georgia Macensky of Williamsport, and Alli Macensky of Galeton; sister, Rosalyn “Rosie” Holenchik of Clearfield; sister-in-law, Rose Marie Close of Kittanning; many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her parents; and three siblings, Angeline “Chickie” Meshula, Sarafine E. Albertson, and Thomas F. Close.

Private Funeral Services will be held at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Crematory, Ulysses, PA. Rev. Joseph V. Dougherty will officiate. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery, Galeton.

Memorials in Kathy’s memory may be made to Gale Hose Ambulance, P.O. Box 223, Galeton, PA 16922.
