Linda L. POSTLEWAIT

May 5, 1944 — May 30, 2025

Port Allegany, PA

Linda Lee POSTLEWAIT, 81, of Port Allegany, PA, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, May 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born May 15, 1944, at the Mountain Clinic in Olean, NY, Linda was the beloved daughter of Wayne and Mary Kio Culver. A proud member of the Port Allegany High School Class of 1961, she pursued her passion for education at Clarion University, earning her degree in 1965. On January 5, 1963, in Port Allegany, Linda married the love of her life, Malon Postlewait, who survives.

Linda began her professional journey as a history teacher at the Port Allegany Jr./Sr. High School. After earning her license as an insurance agent, she sold insurance door to door for Prudential and later continued selling Waddell and Reed Insurance at the George Rapp Insurance Agency in Port Allegany. In 1980, she and her beloved husband, Malon Postlewait, co-founded Postlewait Logging Company, marking a new chapter in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in Port Allegany and served as a leader in both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She was also very active in the Port Jaycees, a member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), and a supporter of the United Way.

In 1975, Linda played a pivotal role as a founding member of the Port Area Ambulance Service (PAAS). She was instrumental in shaping the organization from the ground up—authoring its original bylaws, serving as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and mentoring others who followed in her footsteps. Her commitment to the Port Allegany community left a lasting legacy that continues to impact the town today.

A tireless advocate for children and education, Linda dedicated her life to uplifting others through learning and community service. She was deeply involved in the Parents Involved Network (PIN) and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), where she worked tirelessly to support families and enhance resources for children in need. Her commitment to education extended beyond the classroom—she taught adult literacy classes from her home, opening doors for others to achieve independence and confidence through reading and writing. Linda’s passion for lifelong learning, child advocacy, and empowering others through knowledge left a lasting impact on everyone she met.

Linda is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Malon Postlewait, and their children: Grant (Earleen) Postlewait, Sonya Vermillion, and Chad (Nicole) Postlewait. She was a proud grandmother to Dr. Mariah (Chris) Postlewait-Wagenheim, Kale Postlewait, Jacob (Raelynn) Vermillion, Noah Vermillion, Olivia Postlewait, Julia Postlewait, and Isaac Postlewait; and five great-grandchildren, Caiden Vermillion, Grayson Vermillion, Jada Vermillion, Moira Vermillion, and Judy Postlewait-Wagenheim. She is also survived by her siblings, Patricia (Jack) Olinger, Lorna Griggs, and William (Bonnie) Culver; her very dear sister-in-law, Margaret "Peg" Pearson; and her loving caregiver, Sue Taylor. Linda was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Judy Ann Culver; brother, Edward Wayne Culver; and brothers-in-law, Daniel Griggs, Theodore Pearson, and Marlin Postlewait.

Linda will be remembered for her deep wisdom, sharp mind, and straightforward advice. Her impact was felt far beyond her own home and will continue to resonate in the community she helped build. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
