Michael T. HANAKA, 81, of Wellsville, died Friday, August 8, 2025, in his home.
He was born on January 9, 1944, in Kenmore, the son of the late Frank and Loretta (Sullivan) Hanaka. On July 15, 1967, he married Mary L. Ewert, who survives.
Mike was a graduate of Kenmore West High School; he served with the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966. He was employed as a pipefitter for National Fuel Gas for over 30 years. Mike was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville; he was an avid outdoorsman who loved his farm and family.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 58 years, Mary Louise (Ewert) Hanaka, are: three children, Scott Michael Hanaka of Wellsville; Julie Ann Olszewski of Lockport, and Marie Louise (Dwight Wood) France of Wellsville; five grandchildren; Allyson Seamans (Clayton Roth), Collin (Vanessa) Seamans, Karissa Halm, Joshua Olszewski, and Nolan Olszewski, 9 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Daniel Ewert of Wellsville, a sister-in-law, Debbie Ewert of Stanley, NC, a niece, Annette Ewert, and two nephews, Justin Ewert and John Ewert.
He was predeceased by a son, Christopher John Hanaka.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday, August 13, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, 34 W. State Street, in Wellsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14, at 11:00 AM, in the Immaculate Conception Church in Wellsville. Burial with military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, 276 S. Main Street, Wellsville.
