Mildred R. HANNIGAN, 90, of Wellsville, NY, died peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023 in her home surrounded by her daughters and her faithful little dog, Joey.

Robin George will officiate.  Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery.  Cremation was at OLNEY-FOUST Private Crematory.

Born January 13, 1933, in Genesee, PA, she was the third daughter of Robert S. and Mildred H. Bartlett.  Her family later moved to Wellsville, NY, where she attended school and where she learned to roller skate. She loved dancing on skates. She married Lawrence Hannigan on December 15, 1951, and they raised three daughters: Lucinda, Cheryl, and Kim.

Over her lifetime Millie worked at several jobs in the area. As a young woman, she was employed by Reuning's Bakery. While being a full-time mom, she also worked at the Big N and Peterson's Drug Store. When her children were still in school, she also enjoyed being the crossing guard on several of the corners on Brooklyn Avenue. And then, as her house emptied out, she opened her arms to young families and ran a licensed childcare facility out of her home until Larry retired. Millie was never happier than when caring for the littlest ones and many people around Wellsville benefited by her excellent mothering skills.

In retirement, Millie turned her nurturing instincts toward flowers and flowering trees. Her gardens burst into bloom each year and brought her great joy, especially when the birds and butterflies congregated. She also thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her two grandsons, watching them grow into fine young men.

As a member of the Brookside Wesleyan Church, Millie enjoyed fellowship with her friends and helping with church dinners until her years caught up with her. She was a woman of deep faith and really enjoyed the beautiful old hymns and their lovely harmonies.

Millie is survived by her three daughters; her son-in-law, Rich Lilley; her two grandsons, Duncan Lilley and Conor Lilley; two brothers, Raymond Bartlett and Ronald (Lori) Bartlett; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her beloved papillon, Joey, watched over her until the very end, and will miss her most of all.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two brothers, Roger Bartlett and Richard O. Bartlett; and two sisters, Roberta Corcoran and Barbara Bartlett.

Memorials may be made to SPCA serving Allegany County.
