Nancy Adair VAUGHAN, 87, formerly of Bath, NY, died Monday, March 2, 2026 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, PA. 

Born February 11, 1939, in Wellsville, NY, she was the daughter of Sewall and Augusta Kenyon Vaughan. A 1958 graduate of Cowanesque Valley High School, she earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education from Mansfield University and a Master of Science degree in education from Alfred University in 1965. She also held administrative degrees from the University of New York at Brockport. Nancy taught Social Studies, English, Government, and Psychology, and served as a school administrator at Haverling Central School in Bath for 34 years, retiring in 1994. 

Nancy was active in civic affairs in Steuben County, serving on various boards and commissions, notably helping to found the Elm Cottage Museum and create a historic district in Bath, in her capacity as Bath Historic Commission Chairman for more than 20 years. 

She was active in local Democratic politics, serving as a local committeeman, vice chairman of the County, and State Committeeman for the 127th Assembly District. She was appointed by Gov. Mario Cuomo as a trustee at Corning Community College. As a Democratic leader, she coordinated political campaigns in the area for Lyndon Johnson, Robert Kennedy, Mario Cuomo, Howard Samuels, and many others. She held many leadership roles in the New York State Women’s political division. 

She was the recipient of numerous awards for civic and professional services. Nancy was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Westfield, PA, Order of the Eastern Star, Phi Delta Kappa, an international sorority for professional educators. 

Surviving are: nieces, Randi Milliron (Danny) Smith of Gulfport, LA and Marty Jo Milliron Teagle of Warner Robins, GA; nephews, James S. Milliron of Warner Robins, GA and Douglas L. (Tina Boyer) Vaughan, Jr. of Denver, CO; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Maree Vaughan Milliron, twin brother, Craig Kenyon Vaughan, brother, Douglas Vaughan, beloved nephew, Dr. Paul Vaughan, brother-in-law, James W. Milliron, aunt, Emma Kenyon Slawson, and sisters-in-law, Ann Czulewicz Vaughan and Donnie Mosch Vaughan Thompson. 

Services will be private. Burial will be in Genesee Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
