Patrick James SAWYER, 52, of Wellsville, NY, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the Palliative Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.
Born October 30, 1973, in Wellsville, he was the son of James L. and Sandra E. Wright Sawyer. A 1992 graduate of Wellsville High School, he earned a degree in Computer Information Technology from JCC Cattaraugus Campus in 1994. Patrick was a former Assistant Store Manager at Giant Food Market in Cuba from 1996-2000 and then worked as a Project Manager and Corporate Training Consultant from 2000-2003 at Adelphia Communications and then became an Instructor for Adelphia University until 2006. During that time, Pat learned the family business, working side-by-side with his father, Jim, and grandfather, Fran. In 2004, Pat took over the family business of Sawyer Realty, Inc. and ran the business for 21 years. Patrick had hoped to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Sawyer Realty in 2028 following the legacies of Fran L. Sawyer, originating in 1968, his father, James L. Sawyer worked with his father from 1978-2005 and Patrick ran the business from 2004-2025.
Pat was a member of various organizations and supported countless community activities over the years including the Elk Lodge #1495 since 2015, the Wellsville Lions Club since 2018, the Wellsville Moose Lodge #601 since 2021, and nonofficial member, supporter of the Wellsville American Legion, Post 702 and the VFW Post 2530, Wellsville. Pat was a member of the Wellsville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since 2019 and loved being a member to help promote, grow, and develop Wellsville while keeping its unique charm. This included time and donations to The Babcock Theater restoration, the Wellsville Library, and the Wellsville Little League among others. You always saw him volunteering and participating in the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally and Sidewalk Sale, the Annual Trout Derby in Wellsville, the Ridgewalk and Run in Wellsville, and supporting the creation and growth of the Wellsville Brewfest at Island Park, and so many various donations, events, and community groups.
If you knew Pat, he loved life and he lived life big. You would find Pat heading to concerts and music festivals with friends, going to movies and the theater to watch plays and musicals with his mom, Sandy. One of Pat's greatest joys was his trips to Walt Disney World with his family and as a solo adventurer. He was everyone’s Elf on a Shelf at Christmas and Jason at Halloween! Pat never met a stranger and always had a bright wonderful smile that was stretched across his face.
Surviving are: his mother, Sandra Sawyer; uncles and aunts, Douglas and Cheryl Conley Wright of Mansfield, PA and David and Pamela Wright Burgio of Reno, NV; and cousins. He was predeceased by his father; and grandparents, Francis and Helena O’Hara Sawyer and Earl and Nancy Allen Wright.
