Richard S. “Dick” GOLAS, 88, of Wellsville, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026, at Jones Memorial Hospital. 

Born July 31, 1937, in Manchester, CT., he was the son of Stanley and Bertha Rykosky Golas.

Dick joined the U.S. Air Force right after high school. After his discharge, he went to Aviation School in Boston to become an Aircraft Mechanic. His work career took him around the world to Schenectady, Cincinnati, the South Pacific, St. Croix, Virgin Islands and Saudi Arabia. He took a break and lived for a short period in Austria where he met his wife, Ursula.

Dick and Ursula settled in Connecticut where he was employed by Terry Corporation in Windsor, CT. In 1987, they moved to Wellsville with the merger of Dresser-Rand and Terry Corporation. He worked in various positions until his retirement in July of 1999.

In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking and gardening. All his life he was an avid fly fisherman with annual trips to Maine with his buddies. He also volunteered for SCORE, an organization that helps small businesses get started and stay in business. He was a Member of the Wellsville Rotary Club and the Wellsville Lions Club. Dick and Ursula also enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Europe.

A private celebration of Dick’s interesting life will take place at a later date.
