Richard A. SURDAM

Richard A. SURDAM, 70, of Galeton, PA, died Thursday, April 24, 2025 in UPMC Soldiers & Sailors, Wellsboro.

A gathering to celebrate Richard’s life will be held Sunday, May 18, 2025 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at 1303 South Brookland Road, Ulysses, PA. Please bring a picture or memory to share. Food, drink, and music provided. Please contact Sheila Blass at 570-439-2432 with questions. 

Born September 14, 1954, in Galeton, he was the son of Lee G. and Margaret M. Steadman Surdam. A graduate of Galeton Area High School, he served honorably with the U.S. Army from 1973 – 1975. Richard was a self-employed contractor. 

Surviving are: his former wife and companion of 25 years, Vanessa Dapp; step-children, Alicia Baker Worytko, Dustin Baker, Chad Shuemaker, Joshua Shuemaker, Lacy Shuemaker; and 13 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Bonnie Lee Doud and Faye Hooker; and three brothers, Thomas G. Surdam, Gary Surdam, and Gordon R. Surdam. 

A service with military rites will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, May 5, 2025 in Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.
