SMETHPORT- Richard L. Weaver, 91, passed away in his home, Sunday (Jan. 30, 2022).

Born April 26, 1930, he was a son of Howard L. and Clara Belle Wolfe Weaver.  On Mar. 24, 1972, in Smethport, he married Marlene J. Albertson, who died Oct. 31, 2021. They were married 49 years.

Richard was a longtime resident of the area and a graduate of the Smethport Area High School, class of 1949.

He was employed with Bovard & Sefang Co. of Bradford, for 14 years, and Clark Brothers of Olean, for 4 years, having worked in both company’s billing departments. He also worked at Quaker State Refinery for 17 ½ years, and Petro Wax Co., for 1 ½ years, both of Farmers Valley, PA, in the boiler house, before his retirement.

Richard was a veteran, having served with the US Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict.  He trained with the FBI at Quantico, VA, and was an instructor for Rifle & Pistols at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.  He also drove Staff Car for the Aide to the President and drove Bus for the Marine Drum & Bugle Corp. He was stationed in Washington, DC.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Smethport, A.A.R.P., Keating Sportsmen’s Assoc., National Rifle Assoc., Moose Lodge #460, Port Allegany, and American Legion, Bucktail Post 138, Smethport.

Richard loved being with family and friends. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved to boat & camp. He also enjoyed gardening, listening to music, dancing, traveling, going on cruises, bowling and playing cards.

Surviving is a daughter, Dianne (Fred) Eaton of Smethport; a son, Todd Weaver of Smethport, 2 stepsons, Kim (Christeena) McNeil of Eldred, Timothy (Dawn) McNeil of Turtlepoint; five grandchildren: Bridgett Fowler, Brett Sircy, David Eaton, Kyley and Garrett Weaver; 7 step-grandchildren:Suzanne (Anthony) Shall, Mark (Bethany) McNeil, Denise (Jamie) Evens, Corey (Malinda) Raymo, Joshua McNeil, Jeffrey (Molly) McMahon, and Kellie (Nicholas) Ricci; 3 great-granddaughters:, Hailie, Layla, and Nora Fowler; 14 step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great granddaughter; a sister, Patricia (Jerald) McDaniels of Phoenix, AZ, two sister-in-laws, Vicki Tobias Huff of New Port Richey, FL, Vonda Tobias Stoffa of Surprise, AZ; and two brother-in-laws, William (Debbie) Tobias (missionaries) of Columbus, OH, Phillip (Brenda) Tobias of Lafayette, CO; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Marlene, a brother, Robert D. Weaver, sister-in-law, Donna M. Weaver, and brother-in-law, David Albertson & sister-in-law, Lois Albertson.

A private funeral service will be held Saturday (Feb. 5, 2022) in Switzer Funeral Home. Port Allegany, with Rev. B.J. Simms, officiating. A military service will be conducted by the American Legion Bucktail Honor Guard immediately following the funeral service.  Burial will be in McKean Memorial Park, Lewis Run.

Memorials can be made to the American Legion, Bucktail Post 138, Smethport, or choice of donor.
