Richard E. "Dick" WHITESELL

Richard E. Whitesell, 82, of Wellsville, NY, died Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the home of his son. He was born September 24, 1942, in Whitesville, he was the son of the late Irving E. and Thelma Edith (Latten) Whitesell. On March 30, 1990, in Stannards, he married Shirley A. Nye, nee O’Brien, who predeceased him on December 11, 2021.

Dick attended Andover High School. He was employed by various companies and organizations, including Walter Babbit, Rochester Button Company, Shorts, and was the caretaker of Woodlawn Cemetery for many years. Dick enjoyed pulling ponies and later farming with his son, Rick, and two great grandsons, Ricky and Charles.

He is survived by: three sons, Richard (Kathleen) Whitesell of Wellsville, Paul Whitesell of Ohio, and Steven (Doris) Whitesell of Florida; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Ronald (Mellisa) Nye Jr., and Thomas (Jill) Nye, both of Wellsville; a brother, G. Ronald (Linda) Whitesell of Andover; a sister, Darla Williams of Wellsville; a special friend, Betty Lewis of Wellsville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Shirley, he was predeceased by: three brothers, Milford C. “Skip” Whitesell, Donny “Joe” Whitesell, and David I. “Tiny” Whitesell; and a sister, Thelma “Betty” Patrick.

Friends may call Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home of Wellsville, 34 West State Street. His Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery of Wellsville.
