Obituary

Robert Wells GEFFERS, 41, of Wellsville, NY, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a family and circle of friends who loved him deeply and will miss him always.

He was born on December 10, 1984, in Wellsville. His early years were spent in Andover before returning to Wellsville, where he graduated from Wellsville Central School. Robert attended Jamestown Community College, earning an associate degree in Computer Science. While his education was rooted in technology, he had hoped to continue into the nursing field, believing life circumstances had shown him he could make a meaningful difference caring for others. Independent by nature, Robert was not one who easily worked for someone else. Over time, he learned his limits and found success working behind the scenes, providing computer and technical support for a transportation service, a role that suited both his skills and his independence.

Robert was the son of Margaret Middaugh Horton and her husband, Christopher Horton, of Belmont, and of Robert D. Geffers and his wife, Cheryl Sherwood Geffers, of Wellsville, and grandson of Susan Stout of Wellsville. He was the father of Oakland, whom he loved, though the challenges of addiction prevented him from forming the relationship for which he had hoped. He is also survived by his sisters, Jillian Geffers Black (Steven) and Cecelia Geffers Peters (Dennis); his stepbrother, Nick Horton (Amanda); his stepsister, Brittney Horton; his nieces and nephews, Braiden, Audra, Jaxson, Avery, and Aspen; his good friends, Bob and Matt Chandler; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his girlfriend, Maegan Rix. Robert was predeceased by his brother, Duncan Geffers; his grandparents, Robert and Louise Geffers; his uncle, Thomas W. Middaugh; and, sadly, several cousins.

Addiction claimed a significant portion of Robert’s life, but it did not define him. In recent years, he was in a good place in recovery and became a positive influence for others, actively supporting fellow individuals on their recovery journeys. He also carried a deep concern for those experiencing homelessness, a cause close to his heart because he had lived that reality himself and sought to give back whenever he could. Robert believed strongly in recovery and in helping others find their way forward. His story is one shared by many, but it does not have to be yours. Help is available, and recovery is possible.

Friends may call Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, 34 West State Street, Wellsville, NY, where a memorial service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Rev. James Hartwell will preside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a fund that will be set up to benefit Robert’s son, Oakland.
