Sharon L. SMITH, (Welch), 67, of Ulysses, PA, formerly of Allentown, PA, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, with loved ones by her side.
Born on March 14, 1958, in Allentown, she was the daughter of Clark and Shirley Miller Welch. Sharon graduated from William Allen High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1976. On September 6, 1980, she married Jeffrey L. Smith, who survives.
Sharon spent more than a decade working at The Morning Call, where she was known for her hard work and sharp wit. A former member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Allentown, she devoted many years to serving as a youth leader, touching the lives of countless young people with her guidance and tough love.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt who found joy in her family’s stories, triumphs, and even their chaos. Surviving besides her husband, Jeffery, are: two daughters, Jennifer (Smith) Pizolato and her husband Christopher Pizolato, and Stace Smith, both of Breinigsville; her treasured grandson, Alexander Pizolato, who was her pride and joy; two brothers, Earl Welch of Allentown and Douglas Welch and his wife Carol Welch of Orefield; nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Welch) Korup and her husband Matthew Korup, Michael Welch, and Kimberly (Welch) Beers and her husband Stephen Beers; and her grandnieces and grandnephews, Madison Korup, Samantha Korup, Matthew Korup, Jr., Stephen Beers, Jr., Carter Beers, and Faith Beers. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved nephew, Gregory Welch; and her sister-in-law, Kathleen Welch.
Near the end of her life, Sharon received many phone calls and messages reminding her how much she meant to the people in her life. She was a great friend, a loving cousin, and a second mom to many.
A celebration of her life will be held in the Allentown area on a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Crematory, Ulysses, PA. Online condolences may be expressed at www.olneyfoust.com.
