Obituary

Sherry L. GUINNIP, 71, formerly of Baldwin Road, Wellsville, NY, passed away Friday, May 29, 2026, in Wellsville, NY.

Born November 26, 1954, in Hornell, she was the daughter of John and Eleanor Griswold Kernan. A graduate of Alfred-Almond Central School and Olean Business Institute, she began her career at Reeds Jewelry Store as a bookkeeper and had many fond memories of living in Olean. Her time in Olean also included working for Alcas Corporation and Keystone Tool & Die. She was proficient in numbers and always had a great group of work friends, no matter the job. She retired from Allegany County Office for the Aging where she was the Meals on Wheels Coordinator for 20 years.

Sherry was a loving mother, sister, and friend. Of those roles, her most cherished was that of mother, in which she excelled. She was the most loving, dependable, and fun mom a girl could ask for. She taught the importance of honesty and trustworthiness. She will be remembered for her humor, kindness, and craftiness - she could fix or restore almost anything. She loved being outside in her pool, listening to the oldies station, and the many shopping trips which always included a stop at Auntie Anne’s pretzels and a few fits of laughter. She spent most of her time here being kind and thoughtful and in service of others. Her time spent with friends and family was treasured. She kept her kind and sweet nature until the end.

Surviving are: a daughter, Katie (Carson) Prince of Corning; a grandson, Dean Prince; two brothers, John Kernan of Hornell and Donald (Chris) Kernan of Almond; two sisters, Bonnie Ordway of Arkport and Janice (Ozzie) Osborne of Atlanta, GA; nieces, nephews; and her nearly life-long friends, Chris Hirst and Kelly Moody- the kind you could laugh with until you cried. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Ken Kernan and Gerald Kernan.

Services will be private. Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation at www.michaeljfox.org.

Arrangements are under the direction of Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, Wellsville, NY. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wellsvillefuneralhome.com.
