Obituary

Thomas A. BROWN, 88, of Belmont, NY, died Saturday, June 27, 2026, in Hart Comfort House of Allegany County, Wellsville. 

Born May 23, 1938, in Wellsville, he was the son of Albert and Joetta Hoover Brown. A 1956 graduate of Belmont Central School, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served honorably. On October 30, 1961, in Scio, he married the former Linda L. Gardner, who survives. Tom worked in the oil fields with his father until working at Dresser-Rand in Wellsville, retiring after 47 years. 

He was a life member of the Belmont Fire Department, life member of the Wellsville Elks Club, member of the Belmont American Legion Post 808, past president of the Belmont Conservation Club, and was the past Justice for the Town of Amity and Village of Belmont. 

Tom enjoyed baseball, coaching and umpiring Little League and Bath Ruth for many years. He spent a lot of time teaching his son and grandson the sport. 

Tom enjoyed gardening, taking great pride in his garden as a master gardener. In Tom’s “senior” years, he loved spending time with his special great-granddaughter, Lilli, when she was at their home. He also enjoyed many years hunting with John Dunford and fishing with Bob Cole. 

Surviving besides his wife, Linda, are: a daughter, Tracy (George) Landers of Mooresville, NC; a son, Craig T. (Mary) Brown of Scio; a grandson, Craig T. (Emily) Brown II of Belmont; a great-granddaughter, Lillian Hall; a sister-in-law, Elaine Brown of MA; a brother-in-law, James Cooper of Belmont; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two infant sons, Thomas Douglas Brown and Todd Edward Brown; two brothers, Richard Brown and Walter Brown; and two sisters, Janice McNinch and Sandra Cooper. 

A private graveside service will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Belmont. Memorials may be made to Hart Comfort House of Allegany County.
