Virginia M. Russell

PORT ALLEGANY- Virginia M. Russell, 89, of Arlington Heights, IL, formerly of Port Allegany, passed away Thursday (Jun. 2, 2022) in the Lutheran Home, Arlington Heights, IL.

Born Feb. 19, 1933, in Roulette, she was a daughter of Lynn and Louise Thiegles Caulkins.  On Dec. 5, 1954, in Roulette, she married Robert I. Russell, who died July 24, 2021. They were married 66 years.

Virginia was a lifetime resident of the area and a graduate of Roulette High School, class of 1951. She received an Associate degree in business from Bryant & Straton Business College, Olean, NY,

She was employed with North Penn Gas Co., Port Allegany, as an executive secretary, and retired after 35 years of service.

Virginia was a member of the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, Port Allegany, former board member of Charles Cole Hospital, Coudersport, former member of the Smethport Country Club and Couples League, and was active with PA Special Olympics for several years.  Robert and Virginia were avid golfers and enjoyed taking couples golfing trips throughout their retirement years.

Surviving is a son, Terry D. (Nancy) Russell of Arlington Heights, IL, and a grandson, Steven J. Russell of Chicago, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert,  a brother, David Caulkins, and three sisters, Frances Vota, Agnes Nolder, and Lynne Skinner.

Friends will be received Wednesday (Jun. 8, 2022) from 9:30 a.m. till 11:30 a.m. in the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany, where a funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Jack Gregg, pastor of the Regular Baptist Church, Smethport, officiating. Burial will be in Fishing Creek Cemetery, Roulette.

Memorials can be made to the Fishing Creek Cemetery, Roulette, or the Chestnut Street Baptist Church, Port Allegany.
