Wayne E. Schmidt
HAZELHURST- Wayne E. Schmidt, 82, of Dewey Ave., passed away Sunday (May 27, 2018) in his home, after a lengthy illness.
Born February 10, 1936, in Valdez, Alaska, he was a son of William E. and Lula B. Day Schmidt. On Dec. 12, 1967, in Everett, WA, he married Ethel L. Church, who survives.
Wayne was a graduate of Valdez High School, class of 1954, where he was Valedictorian.
Mr. Schmidt was a resident of the area for 20 years, coming from Stanwood, WA.
He was a member of the Hilltop Baptist Church of Gifford, International Laborer’s Union, Anchorage AK, and International Carpenter’s Union, Everett, WA.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Ethel, are two sons, William G. (Aran) Schmidt of Lincoln, NE, Westley E. (Amber Burgess) Schmidt of St. Mary’s, PA; a daughter, Natalie S. (Randall Echler) Schmidt of Pioneer, OH; a sister, Mary Jane (Bruce) Olson of Clinton, WA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Oma Lea Buchanan, and a brother, Roger W. Schmidt.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday (June 2, 2018) in the Hilltop Baptist Church, Gifford, where a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Max Simms, pastor, officiating.
Memorials can be made to the Hilltop Baptist Church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Switzer Funeral Home, Port Allegany.
