James R. LOW

October 30, 1938 — January 24, 2022

James R. LOW, 83, of Knoxville, PA, died Monday, January 24, 2022 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born October 30, 1938, in Leetonia, he was the son of Jay and Irene Buckingham Low.  On June 5, 1976, in West Bingham, he married the former Diane M. Bartoo, who survives.  A Vietnam War Veteran, he served honorably with the U.S. Army from 1961—1963.  He was employed by Ingersoll Rand / Dresser-Rand in Painted Post, NY for 36 years.  He was a member of the People’s Church of Potter Brook.

Jim loved the outdoors.  Raised on a dairy farm, his love of animals and the earth was a mainstay of his life.  An avid hunter, Jim saw hunting season as an opportunity to be in the woods and spend time with family.  He especially loved swapping hunting stories-be it the trips to Colorado hunting elk or fishing Kettle Creek with his brothers.  In his younger years, Jim owned and operated his own dairy farm while working at Ingersoll Rand.  Even after selling his farm, he raised livestock and had a large vegetable garden.  In retirement, he could be found spending hours in his garden weeding or mowing the yard.  Jim was one of the good ones.  Hard working, a kind heart, a generous spirit, easy going nature, and a good story or joke to tell-he brought joy to all who knew him.  He loved his wife, daughters, son-in-law and especially his grandson, Noah.  He cared deeply for his siblings and loved to recount stories of their upbringing.  He faithfully served in his church of Potter Brook for decades as a trustee and grounds keeper.  It is because of his faith in Jesus Christ we know he is rejoicing in heaven.  And while we will miss him here on this earth, we know we will be together again.

Surviving besides his wife, Diane, are:  two daughters, Lori Low of Knoxville and Tammy (E. Matthew) Zehr of Westfield;  a grandson, Noah Zehr;  six siblings, Eugene Low of Shinglehouse, Donald (Anita) Low of Shinglehouse, Pearl Faulkner of Wellsboro, Carol (Dennis) Voorhees of Pen Argyl, Patricia Bollinger of Shinglehouse, and Ethel (Tunk) Phillips of Shinglehouse;  nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by six siblings, Earl Low, Ray Low, Gale Low, David Low, Velma Thomas, and Edna Husted.

Friends may call at the People’s Church of Potter Brook, 62 Rte. 49, Westfield, PA on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, with Funeral Services following at 11:00 AM.  Rev. Gene Jones, Pastor, will officiate.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Knoxville.

Memorials may be made to People’s Church of Potter Brook, 62 Rte. 49, Westfield, PA 16950.
