John A. SMITH

John A. SMITH, 82, of Harrison Valley, PA, died Tuesday, March 29, 2022 in UPMC Williamsport.

Born December 27, 1939, in Newport, RI, he was the son of Charles and Betsy Pinto Smith.  On August 6, 1988, in Ulysses, he married the former Pauline E. Hurler, who predeceased him on December 15, 2018.  A graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, he served honorably with the U.S. Army.  He was employed as a commercial fisherman in Newport, RI.  In Pennsylvania, he was employed by Westfield Tanning Company and Edwin Kibbe Contracting.

Surviving are:  three daughters, Anna (Tom) Davis of Sanford, MI, Sherri Smith of Midland, MI, and Elizabeth (Curtis) Coates of Harrison Valley;  five step-children, Mary Ann Pickering of Tioga, James (Diane) Pickering of Harrison Valley, Douglas (Tracey) Pickering of Rexville, NY, Timothy Pickering of Westfield, and Thomas Pickering of Harrison Valley;  16 grandchildren, Amy Kemph, Joshua Johnson, Jordan Johnson, James Wright, Kurtis (Caitlin Whitefleet) Coates, Dawson Coates, Bobby (Kayce) Barner, Vickie (Ted) Vanskiver, Stanley Barner, Amy (Terry) Sawyer, Mindy Kibbe, Tiffany (AJ) Costley, Brittany (Ed) Riley, Shane (Lindsey) Pickering, Nathan Pickering, and Tyler Pickering;  18 great-grandchildren, Aiden Kemph, Luke Johnson, Gabriella Wright, Hunter Barner, Jacob Barner, Caylee Barner, Caden Sawyer, Madisyn Sawyer, Haleigh Kibbe, Bryden Teller, Bryleigh Teller, Harper Costley, Aria Costley, Kaylen Riley, Cole Riley, Brynlee Pickering, Lucas Pickering, and Raegan Pickering;  two siblings, Anna (Tony) Perry and Ernie Smith, both of Newport, RI;  nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased four siblings, Charles Smith, Jr., Daniel Smith, Steven Smith, and Edna Smith;  and a step-daughter, Linda Pickering.

Friends may call at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Crematory, Ulysses, PA on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM, with Funeral Services following at 4:00 PM.  Rev. Timothy H. Miller will officiate.  Military Rites will be accorded in the funeral home by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery.
